Imperial cities : a magnificent trip made in full week.

I discovered Morocco in April 2007 with my last year high school class, carrying both suitcase and travelling guide.

Upon arrival, I was amazed by the number of papers which we had to fill out for customs, as well as in every hotel. (Name, first name, date and place of birth, passport number, Morrocan entry number).

We changed hotels four times (Marrakech, Rabat, Meknès, Marrakech). The hotels were beautiful and generally correct.

I especially appreciated the city of Marrakech. We visited the medina (= the ancient city). There are very important monuments: the Sadian Sultans tombes built under the administration of sultan El Mansour Eddahbi; the palace of Bahia known under the name of "radiant palace "...

I was impressed by the ramparts around specific parts of land. In fact, these walls were built in earlier days to prevent trespassing by lower class citizens.

90 percent Moroccans are Muslims. We saw a lot of magnificent, gigantic mosquees, like in Cassablanca, Rabat etc... I was impressed the first time I heard the mujedin. We heared him all over the city through a loudspeaker. Four times a day he calls people to pray.

Let us talk about a few shops: there is a lot of handcraft. The main activity is the manufacturing of slippers. You can find them for all tastes at very low prices. Life is not expensive at all over there.

Food is very special in Moroccan restaurants. In hotels they are buffets. Already for 40DH, we had a meal and a drink. The menu consisted of a soup or salad, then chicken stew, followed by couscous and dessert.

I spent an excellent journey. I have learnt many things. Morocco deserves a visit and needs to be understood.

Thank you for reading my article.

You're a great guide, Julie! We feel like visiting Morocco at once!!However, you seem to have a little "problem" with the spelling of city names!!Look at the map, you'll see...
