Het gedicht van Aurélien

De blauwe hemel is synoniem van ontsnapping

Marakkesh stad krankzinnigheid

Jouw dagen zijn bronnen van verwondering

Jouw hotels waar men zich in veiligheid voelt

Marokko dank u voor de prachtig herinneringen

Miss Wyaumont 's little present ...

...Tourists...

If you are a tourist, it's very dangerous to move with your money because moroccans are good sellers. They can sell you their own mother just for money... I'm just kidding but they sell all kind of things and when they see tourists, they triple the prices and if you stop in their shops, they can spend like an hour just for a spoon.

The reason of this search of money is poverty in this country. The most shocking thing is the difference between tourist sites and other places in Morocco beacause prices are very high in tourist places. So, one day I was in my hotel and I bought a small bottle of Coca-cola at 2,50 euros. After that, I made five steps and went to a small shop and saw that a big bottle of Coca was at sixty cents. When I saw this difference, I felt like stole for the bad reasons.

You know, I don't care to give my money to morrocans because they need it. But when I think that this money went to Europeans owners of that hotel, it makes me feel ill.

The other thing that shocked me is that tourists waste everything, they waste food, money and drinks. And one day, it happened to me ; I found myself wasting food. I bought a Kebab (Pita) and I didn't finish it. When I was going to throw it in a bin, a little girl begged me to give it to her. I didn't know what to do and I gave it to her but I was ashamed.

Finally, tourists are seen like customers and they feed alot of families in Morocco by different ways...

Find a taxi when you are a woman..

Marrakech is known for its special little and big taxes. These taxis are everywhere in the city and you can find them easily, it's like in New York City with its yellow taxis. But the difference with New york is that there, when taximen see women, they stop their car immediately and they never change prices (the price is the same for everyone).

In Marrakech, when you are a woman, it's not like that : it's very hard to be picked... The last day, for me and my friend, Marcia, it took about thirty minutes to find a taxi because the free taxis passed without looking us. We felt very lonely...

And when we were in the taxis, it was very difficult for us to negociate the price of the run because taximen don't like to talk to women. They feel more confident with men... Finally, we payed more than we had to pay for a normal run.

You want some tips?

  • Make sure that you are with a boy !!!!!

  • Go next to a crossroad

  • Put one of your hands up as fast as you can when the taxi arrives

  • Tell to the taximan the price that you want and never come back on your price

  • Don't enter in the taxi before you had fixed your price

  • Pay the run at the end

Women in Morocco

There are two kinds of women in Morocco : the tourists and the Moroccans. When I was there, I found myself between the two categories because I'm African and I live in Europe so the men of there had respect and kindness for me because I come from Europe. But at the same time, I felt ashamed when they looked badly at me. The reason of their behaviour is beacause of my way of wearing and my way of living : I was always wearing very tight clothes and I smiled to everyone. I felt like an emancipated African woman.

The Morrocan women are very dicreet, they wear simple clothes (very large clothes) and they never smile to men, and it's very rare to see them putting their eyes on men because it's like an invitation to have sex with them. The very important moment of my trip is when I had free time in Marrakech and when I got henna tattoo because I spoke to these women who « painted » my body, we talked about life and they told me their misfortunates : they could not marry the man that they loved, they got married very young and many of them were left by their husbands. Finally, I discovered that there, women are seen like life givers. They are needed just to make babies and they are thrown like old papers.

I felt very sad when a mother told me that she had to feed her children with the small amount of money that she gained when she made henna tattoos.

Cuisine of Morocco

Couscous is a food of the Maghreb of Berber origin. Couscous consists of spherical granules which are made by rolling and shaping moistened semolina wheat and then coating them with finely ground wheat flour.Traditional couscous requires considerable preparation time and is usually steamed. In many places, a more processed quick-cook couscous is available and is particularly valued for its rapid preparation time. The dish is the primary staple food throughout the Maghreb; in much of Algeria, eastern Morocco, Tunisia, and Libya. It is also popular in the West African Sahel, in France, in western Sicily's Trapani province, and parts of the Middle East.Couscous is traditionally served under a meat or vegetable stew. It can also be eaten alone flavoured or plain, warm or cold, as a dessert or a side dish.

A tajine is a North African dish (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) as well as a special pot for preparing this dish. The traditional tajine pot is formed entirely of a heavy clay which is sometimes painted or glazed. It consists of two parts; a bottom which is flat and circular with low sides, and a large cone or dome shaped cover that rests inside of the bottom during cooking. The cover is so designed to promote the return of all condensate to the bottom. With the cover removed, the bottom is open and shallow for easy serving at the table.

Spices are used extensively in Moroccan food. While spices have been imported to Morocco for thousands of years, many ingredients, like saffron from Tiliouine, mint and olives from Meknes, and oranges and lemons from Fez, are home-grown.

The most popular drink is green tea with mint. Traditionally, making good mint tea in Morocco is considered an art form and the drinking of it with friends and family members is one of the important rituals of the day. The technique of pouring the tea is as crucial as the quality of the tea. The tea is accompanied with hard sugar cones or lumps.

I am sorry for the photographs but I am not able to put them!

Marrakech

Mijn lievelingsstad is Marrakech
De felle kleuren erin is typisch
Lachen, bezoeken
en cadeaus kopen...
De markt is niet zoals in La Roche!

Culture

Morocco is an ethnically diverse country with a rich culture and civilization. All those civilizations have had an impact on the social structure of Morocco. It conceived various forms of beliefs, from paganism, Judaism, and Christianity to Islam. The people are very free but the politic is strong with Mohammed VI. Mohammed VI is generally opposed by Islamist conservatives. His support for political pluralism has angered some fundamentalists. It’s also amazing because there are a lot pictures of him.

The Atmosphere in Morocco

The atmosphere in Marocco is very amazing because the people are very peculiar. The people like the money and tourists are victims in this economy, it’s a big probelm for me, but it’s also the atmosphere in Marocco. People like of don’t like Marocco for that. In the street, people are sometimes very cordial, but I think that people make themselves even poor than they are it for to earn money. Each region possesses its own specificities, thus contributing to the national culture and to the legacy of civilization. Morocco has set among its top priorities the protection of its legacy and the preservation of its cultural.

About Morocco :

Casablanca is a harbour city with six million inhabitants, it is the heart of the Morocco's economy. Casablanca is at the crossroads between Europe and Africa but it's also a city divided between tradition and modernity.

Rabat is the capital of Morocco but also one of the four imperial cities with Fees, Marrakech and Meekness. In Rabat there are clean boulevards surrounded by interminable alleys of palm trees.

The king of Morocco is Mohammed VI. His father was Hassan II. For 99% of islamists the king is the leader of their religion. Mohammed is everywhere and the red Moroccan flag with a green star floats above each big boulevard.

Taxi ...

I travelled by the taxi to go in the Djemma el Fna place with Joël and François. It was so good !!! :-)

François and me were scared and we went in the back of the car so Joël had to sit next to this crazy Moroccan driver.

The fare is very reasonable but it's a little bit dangerous because the taxi drivers are very spontaneous in their driving. I even think that our taxi driver didn't have his licence. Fortunately we arrived without too many problems at the appointment.

There are two kinds of taxis : there are the Fiat cars carrying three passengers, but there are also big Mercedes cars carrying six or even seven passengers.

History of our experiments of youth.

Before leaving, all rhetoricians were in a good mood and some were wearing their most beautiful clothes.

Everyone waited impatiently whitout being worried about the moment to take off.

Jean-Noël was more motivated than everybody to take photographs for his holiday's album.

We sat at the back of the plane, and had a nap before reaching Morocco.

After the plane, the will to have a good and long night of sleep was on the face of my room's comrade.

After visiting the medina, Laurent was hungry. We travelled by the bus to go and eat our 'tagine' everyday.
Mmmmmm !!!

Morocco is also a country where you can fall in love. Pierre and I gave this girl the name Aurélie. Thanks to her we came back with beautiful pictures from Morocco which gave us unforgettable recollection.

Laurent has had a lot of laugh during his rhetorician's travel.

During the week we were more and more tired.

Follow us ... Go and travel into Marocco.

The difference of culture :

The Moroccans have a different culture from us and that's why there are a lot of beautiful things to see. It's impressive to see how a civilization can be so different than another one. The Moroccans have a lot of culinary specialities like tagine and couscous but there is also spices and mint tea.

Ideally one can divide Morocco in three great areas : the coast, the mountains and the central desert. These areas with such different climates also differ greatly in terms of views, culture and costumes and this is what makes this country so fascinating.

The most impressive thing when we go to this country is certainly when we can see how they are attached to their beliefs.

Djemma el-Fna square :

It's a large open space where you can see countless shows performed by jugglers, snake charmers, dancers and acrobats every day. The name Djemaa el-Fna means 'gathering of the dead' due to the fact that public executions took place there in the past. The Djemma el-Fna square is also a magical and fascinating place where it's normal to accept the tea that the vendor offers as bargaining the price of any item for sale : it's all part of the game ...
