The place of women in the Moroccan society


It’s a real cultural shock. In Belgium women and men have got the same role in society but in Morocco boys dominate families. During our travel on the black continent we didn’t see any woman working in the souks or somewhere else. In Morocco women usually do the homework, prepare meals or take charge of their children. Only men work and sell their products. In fact our guide explained to us that women didn’t usually work outside and that’s why we don’t often see them in this land. Moreover the few women that we have seen were veiled and wore a “djellaba”.
I believe that we can say women are submissive in Morocco. However there is an exception: Casablanca. In this town women behave half European and half Moroccan; women are freer than in the other towns. In other words the women of Casablanca look like pin-ups. We saw a young woman who was wearing a mini skirt and a low-cut dress! So gorgeous!...
